WINDHOEK, 09 JUL (NAMPA) – President Hage Geingob invited his old friends; former Speaker of the National Assembly Dr Theo-Ben Gurirab and former Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) President Hidipo Hamutenya for dinner at President's Residency on Wednesday.
The three were originally known as the 'Swapo Trio' during the liberation struggle as they served in various capacities to petition for the independence of Namibia.
They are all drafters of the Namibian Constitution.
“I came a long way with them and I wanted them to be the first to have dinner with at the President Residency. I wanted to honour them, despite their current political positions,” said Geingob as he received the two at his residency in Windhoek’s Auas Blick neighbourhood.
“We are a living history. We are a three-in-one team, whereby the leadership of the Swapo Party trusted us as a trio for the cause of the liberation of Namibia. This is a continuation of history and we remain friends, the three of us.” said Gurirab.
Hamutenya indicated that this is a wonderful opportunity for the three old friends to meet.
Gurirab and Hamutenya thanked the President for the gesture.
The three have always been regarded as the Swapo Party’s think-tank, both in exile and after independence.
