The Namibia Broadcasting Corporation (nbc) Board of Directors was unveiled on Monday (6 July). Three new members - Ongwediva based lawyer Inonge Mainga, Otavi Chief Executive Officer Moses Matyayi and human resource specialist Wilhencia Kanjegerue Uiras, join re-elected Chairperson Sven Thieme and Andrew Kanime on the new Board.
Thieme is the Executive Chairperson of Ohlthaver and List Group of Companies, while Kanime is the General Manager of Human Resources and Strategic Training at Telecom Namibia.
Thieme also announced the appointment of Vezenga Kauraisa as acting Director General to replace outgoing DG Albertus Aochamub who has been appointed as President Hage Geingob’s official spokesperson. Kauraisa is the nbc’s Chief Human Resources Officer.
Aochamub, who has been at the helm of nbc since 1 August 2010, will officially leave the national broadcaster on 1 August 2015. He is part of Dr Geingob’s recently announced team of advisers to join State House.
Aochamub lauded the nbc Board and staff for overwhelming support during his tenure, saying that he will still be available for consultations.
“I thank each and everyone of you for your cooperation and support and I wish you will give the same support to the new team. I will not be here at nbc physically, but I will still be available for guidance as the new team takes charge,” he said.
Board Chairperson Thieme said he was sad Aochamub was leaving the broadcaster but wished him well in his new position at State House. “I am disappointed that we have lost him as DG, but I wish him well in his endeavours and I am sure he will do the same great job he did at nbc once he assumes his new post at State House,” said Thieme.
The nbc Chairperson said for continuity purposes, he preferred that the next Director General be selected among existing nbc senior staff. “I will continue to work with the new team to take nbc to the next level. I will make sure that the resolutions we made are executed, and I will fight for it,” said Thieme.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Tjekero Tweya also lauded Aochamub for a great work during his tenure at nbc and wished him well as he joins the President’s team.
“I congratulate the outgoing DG for tremendous work, and wish him a rewarding future. I am looking forward working with the new team,” the Minister said.
