Windhoek, June 08, 2015
Great strides are being made in the organisation of the upcoming Trustco Namibia International Air Show to be staged and hosted by the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association (AOPA) on the 1st of August 2015 at the Hosea Kutako International Airport, outside Windhoek. AOPA is pleased to release its third Press Announcement, published for purposes of providing stakeholders, the local and international public at large with relevant information and developments.
As the Air Show is taking place at an International Airport, security screening and access control will be slightly stricter compared to shows at private airfields. Chairs, umbrellas, cool boxes, similar camping equipment, glass bottles, knives, weapons or any other sharp or potentially dangerous items will not be permitted. Ample seating, shade and refreshments will however be available for spectators. Visitors are therefore urged to limit their carry-on items to personal effects only like hats, cameras, cell phones, wallets, sunglasses, etc.
Traffic, Transport & Parking
As can be expected, traffic on the road to the airport will be extremely heavy throughout the day. To reduce the traffic pressure, negotiations are underway regarding alternative means of transport (scheduled train and bus services) for spectators between the City of Windhoek and Hosea Kutako International Airport on the 1st of August. It is envisaged that the alternative transport methods will alleviate time for Air Show attendees as opposed to travelling by car.
Free and open parking spaces as well as allocated paid and pre-booked parking will be available on the eastern side of the Airport. Proceedings of the Air Show will be kept strictly separate from the normal operations of the Airport so as not to interfere with the day-to-day activities of regular travel.
Visitors flying in for the Air Show via South Africa are reminded of the supplementary return SAA flight on the 1st of August 2015 from Johannesburg to Windhoek. Seats for these flights can now be booked online or at travel shops and details thereof are as follows:
SA3068 DEP JNB 0730 ARR WDH 0835 (0530Z – 07:35Z)
SA3069 DEP WDH 1700 ARR JNB 1950 (16:00Z – 17:50Z)
Private & Charter Aircraft
Due to limited parking space and a full action packed programme, charter and visiting aircraft inbound to Hosea Kutako International Airport will be diverted to Eros airport on the day of the show. This is to simplify air traffic control and the logistics on the apron on the day of the show.
Apart from a full programme of aerial acrobatics entertainment, spectators will also have the opportunity to see and visit a variety of ground static displays. A range of aircraft, aviation products, information booths of various aviation authorities, charter companies and their services will be showcased.
