WINDHOEK, 28 JUN (NAMPA) The young boy who was attacked and killed by two pit bull dogs in the Otjomuise area here on Saturday, has been identified as Fred Savage.
Nampa reported earlier that the boy was nine years old, but the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) confirmed that he was in fact 13 years old.
NamPol Spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi told a media briefing here on Sunday that a case of culpable homicide and not murder could be opened by the State against the owner of the dogs, who is said to be in Rundu when the incident happened.
The pit bulls left the yard in which they were kept, and attacked the deceased.
The two dogs were shot dead by City Police officers as they were still aggressive and agitated shortly after the incident.
Unconfirmed reports have it that the dogs also attacked other people in the past.
Kanguatjivi further reported that a 32-year-old man allegedly shot his girlfriend before taking his own life at Rosh Pinah in the //Karas Region on Sunday.
The incident occurred at about 11h40 at the Skorpion Village.
The suspect, identified as Mateus Shapaka Iileka, shot and killed 25-year-old Miriam Shiwaovanu Shiyakela.
The two were in a relationship at the time of the incident.
The motive behind the murder-suicide has not yet been established nor the events that transpired before the shooting.
Both their next of kin have been informed.
In the same region, Andries Goliat, 30, was stabbed to death at the Zidane Bar in the Tseiblaagte area on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred at around 01h00, following an argument between the deceased and a 34-year-old male suspect inside that bar.
Goliat was stabbed in the neck with a knife and died on the spot.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate's Court on Monday.
In the Erongo Region, a 19-year-old man has been charged with murder after he allegedly beat Timotheus Kauna Alias Matiti, 32, with a brick on his head in Kuisebmund, Walvis Bay on Friday.
The incident took place at the Vilakazi Bar at about 23h45 when a scuffle broke out between the suspect and the deceased.
The suspect was later arrested at a Walvis Bay hospital, where he went to seek treatment for injuries he sustained during the confrontation.
Meanwhile, the Police at Keetmanshoop has opened an inquest docket into the death of Army Sergeant Shilongo Junia Tautilange, 48, who burned to death in a shack fire on Friday evening.
The incident took place at around 20h00 at Tseiblaagte.
Police investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
NamPol also recorded two cases of rape over the weekend.
In the first case, a 21-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her 45-year-old stepfather in the Omusati Region on Friday.
The incident occurred at about 22h00 at the Oshimanya Village in the Tsandi Constituency.
The suspect was arrested and will appear in the Okahao Magistrate's Court on Monday.
A second woman, aged 22, was allegedly raped at or nearby the Trans Kalahari Border Post on Wednesday, but the incident was only reported to NamPol on Friday. No further details were provided about the incident, and police investigations continue.
