Police baffled as man is shot dead and half-naked woman disappears
A man was found shot dead in his bakkie yesterday morning in the Kupferberg area, while the woman who was in his company has mysteriously disappeared, after leaving the scene with a passerby.
Police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi, confirmed yesterday that a Namibian man was found dead with a gunshot in the right eye near Kupferberg, while the mystery woman is still to be identified.
He said the man has been identified by his mother as Marius Christo Mostert, 44.
According to Kanguatjivi, the woman who is believed to be married was found at the scene half-naked and it is suspected that she either had sexual intercourse with Mostert or was raped.
A passerby found her wandering around the area in a drunken state yesterday morning.
She took the passerby to the bakkie, where Mostert was found dead inside. The woman then placed a blanket around herself.
They then went to report the case at a nearby roadblock, but when the police officers arrived at the scene the woman and the passerby had disappeared.
Kanguatjivi said the passerby dropped the woman in Suiderhof, where a man wearing short pants came out and shouted at her.
The man was reportedly looking for the woman the whole of Tuesday night. She has since disappeared from their Suiderhof home.
Kanguatjivi said Mostert was living with his mother in Hochland Park before he apparently moved to Cimbebasia with his girlfriend.
He also added that Mostert’s wallet was found in the vehicle with all his money in it. The investigation is still ongoing.
“This is really a strange case,” said Kanguatjivi.
The Kupferberg Road is a gravel road that starts near the University of Namibia (Unam) main campus on the south-western outskirts of Windhoek.
