Tourist allegedly killed and woman raped in Kupferberg area

WINDHOEK, 24 JUN (NAMPA) - A tourist was allegedly killed in the Kupferberg area on the south-western outskirts of Windhoek earlier this week.
A woman who was in the company of the deceased person at the time of the incident was allegedly raped.
The spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol), Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi confirmed the incident upon enquiry on Wednesday.
He could not say whether the incident occurred Tuesday or Wednesday.
Kangautjivi also could not disclose any further information pertaining to the alleged attack in which the man allegedly lost his life at the hands of the unknown attackers.
He said the investigating officers from NamPol Serious Crime Unit were still at the scene gathering information when Nampa contacted him at around 11h30, and for this reason he would only be able to provide more information about the incident later in the day.
Meanwhile, a source who asked not be named informed this news agency that the incident occurred around 10 kilometres outside Windhoek on the Kupferberg road during the course of Tuesday evening or on Wednesday morning.
According to Kanguatjivi, police investigations are now in full swing.
The Kupferberg road is a gravel road that starts near the University of Namibia (Unam)'s main campus on the south-western outskirts of Windhoek.
The road connects Windhoek to Walvis Bay in the Erongo Region and passes through bushy and hilly areas, and the Namib Desert area.
