KATIMA MULILO, 23 JUN (NAMPA) – A 55-year-old woman died a gruesome death after an allegedly mentally unstable neighbour set her hut alight while she was inside it in the Zambezi Region on Monday.
According to information provided by the public relations and community affairs department of the Katima Mulilo office of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) on Tuesday, Anna Lola Kuzibuka burned to death inside her sleeping quarters at Sikwekwe village, which is situated in the Kongola Constituency’s Choi area.
Warrant Officer Lungowe Mapenzi told Nampa on Tuesday a 43-year-old man has since been arrested. He is in the custody of the Kongola Police, and is being charged with murder.
“The suspect who was arrested stands accused of burning the old woman’s house while she was inside it. We have established that the suspect, who is mentally unstable, and deceased were neighbours,” Mapenzi said.
He added that on the night of the incident, the suspect had first burned down his own house before setting alight Kuzibuka’s homestead while she was asleep.
“After committing arson, the suspect ran away from the scene and took his eight-year-old daughter with him. The child has since been returned and is in the care of her relatives,” said Mapenzi.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
