The Katutura Expo will be held from 1 to 4 August 2013 for the third consecutive year, it was announced today.
An initiative of the Katutura Central Constituency, the event aims to serve as a catalyst for re-engineering of the Katutura business model in order to bring about a positive paradigm shift in the benefits that these micro-entrepreneurs within Katutura reap.
The 2013 Katutura Expo will particularly focus on those formal and informal SMEs within the boundaries of Katutura (registered or unregistered) with the broader aspiration of achieving the goals of Vision 2030 and reducing poverty and creating employment.
Focus will also be on the agricultural economy where a mini-agricultural show will take effect during the course of the event.
This will give Katutura residents who are engaged in livestock farming the opportunity to showcase their livestock breeds.
Prices will be given out to farmers with the best breeds of livestock according to the different categories.
Gathering under the theme “Unity in Diversity”, SMEs and entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to gather information about their competitors, gain exposure and press, acquire new partners and get education that will enhance business practice and profitability while penetrating new markets.
Katutura is a known disadvantaged constituency with many social ills that occur in the community.
As such, several churches and faith-based organisations will be on hand to disseminate information regarding HIV-Aids, drug and alcohol abuse to the attendants.
A number of sponsors rose to the plate to support this initiative, including MTC, Standard Bank, City of Police, Agribank, Namibia procurement fund among many others.
The main sponsor is Mukurob Fishing which contributed N$100 000 to the 2013 edition.
“We are very proud to be associated with such a positive investment into the Katutura small business community, through the Katutura Expo, this sponsorship signifies our commitment to the community and its prosperity,” said Aaron Mushimba, Chairman of Mukurob Fishing.
There will also be an entertainment outlet for the young at heart with a boxing match and musical performances by Mushe, Gazza and cultural dance groups among others.
