WINDHOEK, 21 JUN (NAMPA) - Youthful Zimbabwean Stuart Krog won the 2015 Windhoek Lager Africa Jacket Golf Championship here over the weekend.
Krog, 19, earned the prestigious Windhoek Lager Africa Green Jacket and a trophy after winning the A-Division of the two-day competition at the Windhoek Country Club Golf Course.
He told Nampa after the match on Saturday that although the first day (Friday) did not go well for him, Saturday was a much better day.
“The tournament turned in my favour on Saturday during the last nine holes,” said Krog.
He is currently ranked number one on Zimbabwe's amateur golf ranking.
Deputy Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service, Agnes Tjongarero handed over the awards during a gala dinner on Saturday evening.
Krog told this agency that he will travel to the United States of America (USA) in August this year to start his tertiary education, and will continue playing golf there.
“When I get to America I will play college golf and I believe the coaches and facilities there should help me grow my game,” he said.
Twenty-six players from nine countries took part in the championship.
Namibia's Paul Ndeilenga, who was a favourite to win the tournament, ended second in the A-Division place with 227 shots - four shots more than Krog - in the 54-hole golf tournament.
Abas Adam Sumbi from Tanzania ended third with 228 shots.
