DTA of Namibia appoints Acting Secretary General

WINDHOEK, 17 June (NAMPA) – The DTA of Namibia has appointed their Member of Parliament, Elma Dienda, as the party’s acting secretary-general (SG).
DTA President, McHenry Venaani made the announcement at a media briefing on Wednesday, saying campaigning for the upcoming Regional and Local Authority elections would not be sensible with such a vacuum within the party.
“The party’s management committee has decided that the current situation in which the party finds itself of attempting to launch and formulate a comprehensive nationwide campaign plan and strategy in the absence of a sitting SG, is neither desirable nor conducive to effective planning,” he said.
The upcoming Regional and Local Authority elections are scheduled for late 2015.
The SG vacancy in the DTA exists because SG Vincent Kanyetu and two regional coordinators were suspended in May 2015 amid allegations of seriously mismanaging party assets.
Kanyetu, DTA Kavango West Coordinator Reinhilde Kudumo and the party’s coordinator of the Kavango East Boniface Kashera are accused of selling the party’s property in Rundu without the authority to do so.
Venaani said a three-member disciplinary committee, headed by Moses Titus, the mayor of Keetmanshoop, will be conducting a disciplinary hearing in the early part of July 2015.
