WINDHOEK, 16 JUN (NAMPA) - Pro Tennis Academy (PTA) players are gearing up for the fourth tournament of the PTA Series which is scheduled to take place in the capital.
A media statement issued by PTA tennis series director and head coach Romeo van Wyk said the tournament will be hosted at the Windhoek High School (WHS) tennis courts.
“The two-day tournament is the only event in Namibia where participants battle it out according to their skill set and not their age,” he said.
In the mini category Jamilla Hungamo and Eila Kambonde are expected to continue their rivalry which dates back to the first tournament of the year. Both have two wins on their names so far.
Meanwhile, the likes of Jozikee Tjaimba and Rejoice Nawases could also spring a surprise at the upcoming tournament.
Van Wyk said more intense action is also set to take place in the beginners’ category.
“During the last event Alwera Smith upset the established order to take home her first win, but time will tell if she can repeat this success,” he said, adding that her main rivals for the win will most likely be Faith Kahuure and Delicia Dirkse.
In the intermediate category, Brandon Maasdorp has thus far been the most successful player, having won the first two events of the season.
Maasdorp however had to settle for third position in the last tournament in May after being edged out by Cleet Farmer and Mike Kambonde, who took first and second place respectively.
The PTA Tennis Series is hosted every month, but the tournament did not take place in April due to the school holidays.
