Old Mutual pumps money into Far North Champs

ONGWEDIVA, 13 JUN (NAMPA) – The 2015 Old Mutual Far North Championships was officially launched here on Thursday evening.
Old Mutual Namibia’s Corporate Transformation Consultant, Revonia Kahivere said during the launch that her company this year availed N.dollars 350 000 for the promotion and organisation of the championships that was introduced in 2004.
“Since 2004, Old Mutual has contributed some N.dollars 2.4 million to the Far North Championships, which include our 2015 sponsorship of N.dollars 350 000,” she told her audience.
The championships involve hundreds of learners from schools in the northern regions of Oshana, Ohangwena, Omusati and Oshikoto who participate in football and netball.
The Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service, Solution Worx, OTB Sports, Old Mutual Short-Term Insurance Company and Waltons Stationary are co-sponsors and partners in the event.
“We are pleased to recognise our valued co-sponsors and partners who have joined us over the years and who, either in kind or cash contributions, or by rolling up their sleeves, have helped us organise these successful championships,” noted Kahivere.
Besides cash prizes, laptops, photocopier machines and sports equipment are up for grabs.
The 2015 Old Mutual Far North Champions’ activities commenced last month at regional level, while the finals (inter-regional competition) is set to take place at the Oshakati Independence Stadium on 19 September.
The principal of Haudano Senior Secondary School (SSS) in the Omusati Region, Kristopher Shau said during the launch that the championships contribute to the development of the youth - physically and educationally.
He believes equipment such as photocopier machines and laptops have facilitated the smooth running of schools and brought about improved academic results.
