NMH launches Responsible Tourism Awards

WINDHOEK, 11 JUN (NAMPA) – Namibia Media Holdings (NMH) launched the Responsible Tourism Awards during the official opening of the Namibia Tourism Expo on Wednesday.
Speaking during the launch in the capital, NMH Board chairperson Josephat Mwatotele said the awards are being established to reward operators in the tourism industry who contribute to sustainable tourism, embrace eco-tourism and contribute towards poverty alleviation in the country.
The awards will focus on two categories - hospitality establishments, and tour operators and car hire services.
“We have committed to this initiative total prize money of N.dollars 1 million that is made up of advertorials and editorials in various NMH publications, as well as cash prizes dedicated towards poverty alleviation for communities,” he said.
Mwatotele added that individual winners of each category can expect to walk away with advertorial and editorial prizes valued at between N.dollars 25 000 and N.dollars 250 000 and a cash prize of between N.dollars 25 000 and N.dollars 250 000 dedicated towards a poverty alleviation project of benefit to the community.
The awards are set to take place next year.
Information on the awards is available from the NMH stall at the expo, as well as the NMH offices in the Eros residential area.
NMH is the largest media group in Namibia and serves as the umbrella company of three newspaper brands (Allgemeine Zeitung, Namibian Sun and Republikein) with print and digital offerings, a state of the art newsprint operation and a distribution network.
