TRAIN ACCIDENT AT KALKVELD

TransNamib herewith announce that Train 2200 was involved in an accident at Kalkfeld, Otjozondjupa Region approximately at 19H10

yesterday, 6th June 2015. Train 2200, a freight train enroute from Kranzberg

to Otjiwarongo collided with stationary rail tankers (RTC’s) at the Kalkfeld

station intersection. The collision led to an explosion.

Sadly, one of the two crew members died on the spot. His name cannot

be released until his next of kin has been informed. The other employee is

in critical condition at the Otjiwarongo Hospital.

As a result of the accident, rail traffic between Kranzberg and

Otjiwarongo is suspended until the line is cleared. We thus herewith,

request our esteemed customers to exercise patience with the

anticipated delays in deliveries as a result of the disruption in operations.

Emergency response and accident investigation teams are on the scene

to determine the cause of accident, assess losses, damages suffered and

to speedily restore operations to normalcy.
