OTJIWARONGO, 04 JUN (NAMPA) – A homeless boy is suspected to have frozen to death at Outjo in the Kunene Region.
A passerby found the boy’s body along Hospital Street on Tuesday morning, when sub-zero temperatures were recorded in the area.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Head of Operations in the Otjozondjupa Region, Deputy Commissioner Moses Khairabeb told Nampa in an interview on Thursday a family member of the boy from Kamanjab positively identified him as Matheus Guidao-Oab. His age is unknown.
Khairabeb said Guidao-Oab was well-known as being a “street kid” around Outjo.
“He was often seen wondering around the town’s streets. We suspect he died of the cold as no bruises or wounds were found on his body,” he said.
He added that the boy’s body appeared to be frozen. He was dressed in light clothing.
No foul play is suspected so far, and an inquest has been opened at the Outjo Police Station.
Police investigations in the matter continue.
