WINDHOEK, 03 JUN (NAMPA) – Four houses in the Brakwater area north of Windhoek will be connected to the national electricity grid on Sunday, which will result in a temporary power outage in three residential areas of the Khomas Region.
The power outage will only affect Brakwater, Dobra and Nubuamis residential areas.
The connection will take place during NamPower’s annual maintenance of its Von Bach Booster Two sub-station.
The national power utility announced on Tuesday that they are also to carry out annual sub-station maintenance during this power outage.
The country's power utility cautioned the public to treat all power lines and electrical points as live during the power outage, as no prior notification will be given when re-energising.
NamPower Central/South Area Superintendent Nico Goagoseb told Nampa on enquiry Wednesday that the new customers will be connected during the scheduled power outage to take place from 08h00 to 17h00.
He indicated that the power outage has nothing to do with the load shedding the company had announced some two weeks ago.
Namibia is currently experiencing a substantial shortage in energy, depending on 80 per cent of its energy on imports from neighbouring countries: South Africa, Zambia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
