RUSTENBURG, 30 MAY (NAMPA) – Brave Warriors coach Ricardo Mannetti has given credit to Namibia’s local coaches for their cooperation with releasing players to the national team whenever he needed them.
Mannetti said this during an after-match interview with the media on Thursday at the Moruleng Stadium, where Namibia beat Madagascar 3-2 to qualify for the final of the Council of Southern African Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup.
The Cosafa Cup is this year taking place in South Africa’s North West Province.
Mannetti said he would like to commend the local coaches who understand the importance of releasing their players to represent their nation when they were needed.
“What you see today is a good coalition team because of a good working relationship between our local coaches and myself. My training camp with the local-based players started a month before we travelled to South Africa for one week of training in Pretoria,” he said.
He explained how he wrote a letter to all local club coaches asking them to release their players for a two-day training camp every Tuesday and Wednesday for a month.
“I said I would release them back to their clubs for the weekend games. All the local coaches agreed to that,” said Mannetti.
He added that credit should be given to them because the Brave Warriors’ success, players’ bonding, as well the good harmony in the camp and cooperation was created out of the local coaches’ willingness to avail their players to the national team.
“The team’s success in the Cosafa Cup comes a long way and all thanks to the coaches who wanted the nation to thrive and released their players. Despite having league games they really wanted to win. I am grateful that our working relationship has made the national team reach the final of the Cosafa Cup. Going forward I would like us to continue in the same spirit,” said Mannetti.
Namibia will play Mozambique in the final of the Cosafa Cup on Saturday at the Moruleng Stadium, 16h30 Namibian time.
