SWAKOPMUND, 26 MAY (NAMPA) – The DTA of Namibia has recruited 263 members in this coastal town since the beginning of this month.
Olsen Kahiriri, the person responsible for the party’s Swakopmund by-election campaigns, confirmed this to Nampa on Tuesday.
He said the last 17 members were welcomed on Saturday at a meeting held in the DRC informal settlement, where the party also introduced their by-election candidate, Christa Magrietha Hochobes.
Kahiriri said all new members received membership cards, adding that they came from parties such as Swapo, Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP), and the National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo).
“People admire the leadership of the DTA under president McHenry Venaani. They have faith as they see potential and change; that’s why they join the party,” he said.
Kahiriri noted that people who join the party said they were tired of their previous political environment and wanted change.
“This is the reason they want to give Venaani a chance because they gave 25 years to other leaders but their needs were not fully addressed,” he said.
Kahiriri indicated that during their campaigns, the party opted for what he call ‘engagement meetings’ instead of rallies so they can pay closer attention to the needs of the electorate during such sessions.
He said the same trend will be adopted across the country for any election.
Other parties contesting the Swakopmund by-election are Swapo, United Democratic Front (UDF) and Nudo.
The parties rounded off their campaigns on Saturday as the by-election will take place on Friday this week.
