Shilongo to start against Zambia

MORULENG, 24 MAY (NAMPA) – Namibian international striker Benson Shilongo will start for the Brave Warriors when they take on the Chipolopolo of Zambia in a quarter-final clash at the Moruleng Stadium on Sunday.
Shilongo, who scored two goals for Namibia in their group stage game against Mauritius, did not play in Namibia’s last group game against Zimbabwe due to a swollen ankle.
Speaking to Nampa ahead of the Council of Southern African Football Association (Cosafa) Cup quarter-final, Brave Warriors coach Ricardo Mannetti said Shilongo is ready to play. He added that he hopes his players will all come to the party.
“The team is improving every day but I am not happy with some of the players’ performance as they are not giving it 100 per cent. I spoke to them today and told them to give it their all and see the team through to the next round,” said Mannetti.
The coach added that if his team improves from their previous performance against Zimbabwe, they will not have a problem winning against Zambia.
“Our aim of being in the Cup is to play and at least dominate the big boys in the region. If we fail to do that then we will find it difficult to compete in Africa,” he said.
Mannetti only made one change to the squad that played Zimbabwe.
The starting team is:
Goalkeeper: Virgil Vries
Defenders: Ananias Gebhardt; Willem Mwedihanga; Chris Katjiukua; and Ronald Katjijere
Midfielders: Deon Hotto; Wangu Gomes, Petrus Shitembi and Denzil Haoseb
Forward: Peter Shalulile and Benson Shilongo
