ONYAANYA, 18 MAY (NAMPA) – The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has registered 483 new voters for the upcoming Onyaanya Constituency by-election in the Oshikoto Region.
The supplementary voters’ registration took place at the constituency from 05 to 08 May 2015.
Supervisor of the said registration process, Reverend Thomas Uushona said during a stakeholders’ information-sharing meeting held at the Onyaanya Constituency office on Monday that the proposed date for the by-election is 09 July this year.
This date still has to be confirmed by President Hage Geingob and gazetted.
The ECN has set 26 May 2015 as the last day for the nomination of independent candidates who will participate in the Onyaanya Constituency by-election. The deadline for the submission of political parties’ candidates is 29 May.
An independent candidate is required to provide their full details; a completed Elect 10 form; a list of 150 registered supporters; two to four colour passport photos; and proof of payment of N.dollars 2 500 deposited into the State Revenue account.
Political parties are expected to provide full details of their candidates; a completed Elect 10 form; certified copy of certificate of registration as a political party; two to four colour passport photos; and proof of payment of N.dollars 2 500 deposited into the State Revenue account.
The by-election comes after Geingob appointed Onyaanya Constituency councillor Henock Kankoshi as the new Oshikoto regional governor earlier this year.
Kankoshi had succeeded Penda ya Ndakolo, who was promoted to Defence Minister in the new president’s Cabinet on 21 March this year.
The ruling Swapo-Party was the only political organisation present at the information-sharing meeting.
