WINDHOEK, 29 APR (NAMPA) - Brave Warriors coach Ricardo Mannetti finalised his 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers training squad on Wednesday.
A media statement issued by the Namibia Football Association (NFA) on Wednesday quoted Mannetti as saying he is satisfied with the talent he saw in training over the past three weeks .
The national coach said he will towards the end of this week release the names of the local-based players that will start camp for the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup on Tuesday.
He added that he will start with the 2015 COSAFA Cup training camp on Monday before departing for Pretoria for another week of training at the High Performance Centre.
I have had a number of players to assess and they have all really pushed themselves to catch my eye, he said, adding that they can only have a limited number of players.
It is motivating for me as a coach to see that we have quite a good pool of players ready to play for the team whenever they get the call, said Mannetti.
The coach further explained that some players have been in all three or two training groups due to various issues.
Some players have been with me since the first week and others not due to club football commitments, injuries and so on. But overall, the idea has worked and I have seen enough players, he said.
He said he now has to call up the COSAFA team and they will be here for a week before going to Pretoria where foreign-based players will join them. We continue for a week there before getting down to business in Moruleng, Mannetti said.
Namibia's COSAFA Cup fixtures are as follows:
17 May at 15h00 - Namibia vs Seychelles at Moruleng
19 May at 19h30 - Namibia vs Mauritius at Moruleng
21 May at 17h00 - Namibia vs Zimbabwe at Moruleng
In the African Nations Championship; Namibia is paired against Zambia. The first leg matches are scheduled for the weekend of 19 to 21 June, with the return leg slated for 03 to 05 July 2015 in Lusaka.
