Ambunda to defend IBF title in Philippines

World Boxing Federation (WBF) Bantamweight champion Paulus “The Rock” Ambunda, has left for the Philippines where he is set to defend his first world title Cebu City Waterfront Hotel and Casino against Tomoki Kamenda of that country.
Fans expressed confidence that Ambunda will retain his title on the 2 August, as he takes to the ring for his first title defense since becoming the champion on 3 March this year.
He defeated Thailand’s Pungluang Sor Singyu on points in a 12-round bout to claim the title in Windhoek.
Ambunda was joined on his trip by trainer and promoter Nestor Tobias and second trainer Immanuel Moses.
Ambunda was seen off by some fans, and amongst them was Tim Ekandjo from MTC, the financial backers of the MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy.
MTC sponsors the academy to a tune of N$2,5 million per year and the contract runs for three years. The deal was penned down in May 2012.
