Police officers held for murder

AN OFF duty City Police officer and his girlfriend were arrested over the weekend for allegedly beating his wife to death in Katutura.

The police confirmed that John Shetekela Werner (31) and Rosalia Eliphas (26), who are both City Police officers are accused of killing 29-year-old Taleni 'Momy' Werner.
Shetekele and Eliphas were initially charged with attempted murder but this was changed to murder yesterday.
They appeared in the Windhoek Magistrates' Court in Katutura on Monday and were both denied bail and were remanded in custody until 20 June.
Werner and the deceased who stayed in Wanaheda, reportedly had a long standing problem of domestic violence.
According to police spokesperson Slogan Matheus, Shetekela came home last week Thursday evening and asked his wife to open the door for him, but she refused to do so.
“After she refused to open the door Shetekela drove away, but his wife allegedly followed him to a certain house in Owambo location where Eliphas stays. Eliphas is believed to have a romantic relationship with Shetekela,” Matheus said.
Matheus said that when the deceased arrived, a physical fight erupted among the three.
“Shetekela's wife sustained injuries to the head and body. Shetekela then allegedly loaded his bleeding and unconscious wife into his vehicle and drove to his brother's place,” Matheus added.
When he arrived at his brother's place, he [the brother] was asleep and could not assist, but his wife helped Shetekela.
They rushed the injured woman to the Roman Catholic Hospital where she was admitted to the intensive care unit. She passed away yesterday morning, according to Matheus.
Mateus said Shetekela faces another case of murder, kidnapping and defeating or obstructing the course of justice or attempting to do so. He is being charged together with Kleopas Shikalepo Kapalanga and Elia Nakale, after allegedly fatally assaulting 17-year-old Mandela Ramakhutla.
Ramakhutla died on 24 April 2013 in the Katutura State Hospital as a result of an alleged assault by the accused trio.
They allegedly attacked Ramakhutla on the evening of 16 April 2013.
The accused allegedly collected Ramakhutla from a drinking place at the Single Quarters in Katutura on suspicion of having stolen cellphone(s) and computer(s) from the City of Windhoek head office.
