Nedbank Supports Eco-Friendly Buildings
Nedbank Namibia sponsored N$15 000 towards the 2nd Green Building Council Convention that was hosted at Ministry of Mines and Energy on Thursday and Friday last week.
Nedbank Sponsorship Manager, Jacky Tjivikua said it is a busy period for the construction industry in Namibia which is evident from the building sites cropping up around the city centre and regionally one after the other from; industrial parks, residential areas and business malls.
"It is well known that buildings consume a considerable amount of energy from construction to maintenance. Taking this into considering it is an opportune time for non-profit organisation such as the Green Building Council of Namibia who advocate for “Greener Buildings” to continue to raise awareness for Eco-Friendly Buildings and introduce globally accredited tools, that will enable future construction projects to incorporate sustainable forms of construction. As a young growing economy it has become even so more important to ensure that we are building Namibia’s foundation sustainably" she said.
The Green Building Council of Namibia was established in 2012 to address and create awareness through facilitating green building practices, technologies and operations. During the convention a two day assessor training course was held. The Green Star assessor training programme is a South African Accredited Professional Course.
Over 60 participants representing different areas in the construction sector underwent the training course; participants ranged from engineers, environmentalist, architects, civil society, non-governmental institutions, Namibian government and affiliated Green Building Council representatives from Kenya and Germany.
