WINDHOEK, 14 APR (NAMPA) - The Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) on Monday announced a partnership with the country’s national airline, Air Namibia as the official carrier for Namibia Rugby for 2015.
NRU Chief Executive Officer, Sybrand de Beer said at a media conference in Windhoek that the aim of the partnership is for the NRU to build relationships with its stakeholders, especially those in the corporate sector.
“This partnership will allow the NRU to ensure optimal preparation in the build-up to the Rugby World Cup in September this year,” de Beer said.
Flight tickets availed to the NRU as part of the agreement will allow the union to cover the flights for some of the Vodacom Cup matches, as well as the flight costs of national, Under-20 and Sevens teams participating abroad during the year.
“In addition to the teams, we will be able to build capacity by sending coaches, referees and administrators abroad to develop and grow from other international federations,” he said.
Corrie Mensah, vice-president of the NRU who was also present at the media conference, thanked Air Namibia for their involvement in rugby, saying the partnership is of great assistance to the NRU in a very important year for Namibian rugby.
The agreement is valid until 31 December 2015.
