NDAMA, 14 APR (NAMPA) - A 31-year-old man was beaten to death after he allegedly trespassed into someone’s yard at the Ndama informal settlement on the outskirts of Rundu on Monday evening.
A Namibian Police Force (NamPol) crime report issued to Nampa on Tuesday stated that the deceased, who was suspected to have been drunk, apparently entered the plot and fought residents of the house for unknown reasons, prompting them to retaliate.
The deceased has been identified as Sumpu Lungena, a resident of the said village.
It has not yet been established what object was used in the fatal incident.
The police have arrested a 24-year-old man who was apparently behind the brutal beating.
He is expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court in due course on a charge of murder.
In another incident, the police have opened a case of rape after a 32-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted at the same settlement in the early morning hours of Sunday.
NamPol’s Kavango East regional Crime Investigations Co-ordinator, Detective Chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo told this agency on Tuesday that the suspect allegedly pulled the complainant from her cousin’s room where she was sleeping into the nearby bushes, where he committed the act.
The suspect, who is believed to be the ex-boyfriend of the victim, is on the run and a police search for him continues.
