I AM THE KEY CHILDREN SHOW BECOMES THE FIRST NAMIBIAN TV SHOW TO BE PACKAGED ON DVD.

On Thursday, 09 April 2015, I am the children television show made history as being the first television show to be packaged on DVD, it also made history as the first television show to become an organisation. The show which celebrated 2 years of continuous broadcasting, became one of the longest independently show to be produced and aired in Namibia on NBC TV. The show was first introduced as an initiative of Dalarize Development Project in 2013, and was officially launched by UNICEF country representative to Namibia Ms Micaela Marques De Sousa on the 08 March 2013 in Windhoek. However, the show is now registered as a non-profit organisation aiming at promoting children’s education, rights and culture; however, it is now an organisation on its own while getting ready for the production of its 4th season. This was announced by its founder and executive producer, Ms. Dalah Hapulile, during the launch of the official DVD on Thursday at Protea Thuringerhof, Windhoek. Within it first month of broadcast, I am the Key Show has received an overwhelming response from children, teachers and parents, as well as the general public for filling a gap that has been derelict for a long time in the entertainment industry, a Namibian produced children television show.

In her speech titled: A NEW ERA OF I AM THE KEY CHILDREN MEDIA & INTRODUCTION OF THE MANAGING COMMITTEE OF I AM THE KEY CHILDREN MEDIA (NGO)

“Education and a proper upbringing are very important. How we are raised and what we are exposed to contribute greatly to the person we become. Lately, due to various reasons, bringing children up with good family values is becoming more challenging all over the world, even in Namibia. For this reason, I strongly believe that platforms with a positive influence and message should be supported and boosted to ensure that we reach each and every corner and address the social and economic ills facing our society. I am the key children’s media is a unique platform for Namibian children address serious national, social and moral issues affecting them. If we as a nation truly believe that the children are the future, then we need to support platforms like these, were children can engage, contribute and participate.

I am the key children media provide an innovative way of learning by:

•          using children to deliver messages to other children,

•          Making the show colourful and cultivating to children ensuring that they pay attention throughout,

•          Continuously re-emphasising the message through facts, plays and songs ensuring that it leaves a lasting impact on a child.

The show addresses both good family values and basic educational instructions. This is evidential in the impact that we made in the past two years.  As the Founder and Executive Producer of I am the key media project for the past two years, I can proudly say, we made it. We have managed to turn this dream into a brand every Namibian child can and would want to be associated with, and I truly believe it’s a brand that gives corporate companies so much values. Not only does it cover many social aspects by educating and changing lives; it’s also delivers marketing and brand awareness returns. Thus, I would like to work with each and every single person in this room to ensure that we reach every Namibian child. Like they say, it takes a village to raise a child.

I personally funded season 1 of I am the key Children Media, and the cost were so high that I ended up selling my car to cover the costs. We also were fortunate to get the support of FNB foundation that sponsored season 2 & 3, and we are hopeful that they will assist us with the production of season 4 which is due for production. We invite other companies to also come onboard. And we are grateful to the Namibia Film commission for responding positively to this invitation and sponsored the compiling and packaging of our content into a DVD which we are celebrating today.

I am the key is a success story but we still are not where we want to be. As much as we are striving for innovation and technology, we are also aware of our Namibian economic challenges and most Namibian children do not have access to television and don’t even know what a DVD is. Those children, we haven’t neglected and we hope with the current transformation, we will be able to attend to them. As capable and competent as I and my team are, we cannot do this alone. It is for this reason that we took a strategic decision to establish I am the key children Media as an independent on profit organisation as opposed to a project of Dalarize Development project, to enable us to fully achieve our objective and reach all Namibian children, especially those at the grassroots. With their assistance we will be able to give all Namibian children a voice to tell their stories and decentralize our projects and platforms.
