A well-known business personality at Otjiwarongo, Denzil Immanuel Persaud, was killed on Sunday night when he allegedly tried to prevent a burglar from stealing his car.

Chief Inspector Roy Makwatikizo confirmed the murder, saying it was around midnight that the alarm of the vehicle of the deceased went off. He was the owner of Depco Engineering and Manufacturing.

"The deceased shot three rounds in the air to warn any intruder, but then decided to go out to investigate what was going on at his vehicle.

It was at this stage that his girlfriend observed somebody behind the vehicle and before she could make alarm two shots were fired. Persaud was shot in the neck and died on the spot.

The suspect ran away and according to the girlfriend she could not recognise the person as it was dark."

According to the lady's evidence she called some friends who in turn alerted the Police but on their arrival the Persaud was already dead.
