WINDHOEK, 12 APR (NAMPA) An 18-year-old girl was raped next to the B1 Road bridge by six male suspects while on her way to her home in Keetmanshoops Tseiblaagte residential area on Saturday morning.
The incident took place between 03h00 and 04h00, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)'s spokesperson Slogan Matheus said at the weekly crime briefing in Windhoek on Sunday.
She was also robbed of her mobile phone.
It is alleged that the victim was walking home with her boyfriend after an outing when the suspects approached them and raped her.
Some of the suspects reportedly held down the girls boyfriend while she was being raped.
Four of the suspects were aged 14 and two were aged 21. Five of the suspects have been arrested and one suspect remains at large.
They are expected to appear in the Keetmanshoop Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Meanwhile in the Omaheke Region, two women aged 18 and 22 years were raped by one male suspect at Farm Rusplaas on Friday at about 16h30.
It is alleged that the suspect found the two victims in the field walking from one cattle post to another and threatened the victims with a knife, saying he would kill them if they attempted to run or scream.
The suspect raped one victim while the other looked on, and then raped the second victim. The suspect, who is well known, fled after the incident.
He is still at large and police investigations into the matter continue.
In the Zambezi Region, an 11-year-old girl was raped by a 39-year-old male suspect at Dairy Compound in Katima Mulilo on Wednesday.
The incident took place at about 20h00, when the suspect found the victim urinating outside the house and grabbed the victim from behind.
The suspect covered the victim's mouth with his hands and pulled her into his sleeping room, where he raped her.
The suspect was arrested and is due to appear in the Katima Mulilo Magistrates Court on Monday.
Police investigations continue.
