Two men die in truck collision on Otjiwarongo-Otavi road

OTJIWARONGO, 08 APR (NAMPA) – A 43-year-old truck driver and his 24-year-old male passenger died instantly in a fatal head-on collision of two trucks on the Otjiwarongo-Otavi road on Monday evening.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha identified the deceased truck driver as Barry Upingasana and passenger as Uapingena Sydney Kazohua.
Mbeha said the two deceased men were travelling from Grootfontein towards Otjiwarongo in a truck belonging to Blaauw’s Transport on the B-1 road.
At approximately 41-kilometres to Otjiwarongo from Otavi on a curve, the truck collided head-on with an oncoming truck belonging to Epic Transport.
The Epic Transport truck driver, Eeperi Muvangua survived the accident with minor body injuries on his arm.
“The cause of this fatal collision is still not known to us,” said Mbeha.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened at the Otjiwarongo police station.
Police investigations continue.
