Electricity blackout causes game stoppage in Newspaper Cup

OUTJO, 05 APR (NAMPA) – An electricity blackout in Outjo on Saturday interrupted matches 17 and 18 of The Namibian Newspaper Cup underway here.
The power outage, which lasted for more than three hours, caused the game between the Otjozondjupa and Omusati regions to be called off, as well as the match between Kavango East and Kavango West.
The power cut was caused by heavy rain, and also affected all telecommunication networks, preventing people from making phone calls.
These games were rescheduled for Sunday morning.
When the matches resumed, Omusati beat Otjozondjupa 1-0 to qualify to the semi-finals, while Kavango East and West drew one all.
The draw means Kavango East qualified to the next round of the competition after coming out tops in its group with four points. Kavango East will now play Omusati in the semis.
The Kavango Region won the cup in Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region last year.
The finals will be played on Monday.
