OUTJO, 04 APR (NAMPA) – A 29-year-old woman was murdered by her boyfriend in the Soweto informal settlement at Outjo on Friday evening for allegedly ending their relationship.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha identified her as Engenesia /Ais.
Her next of kin are already informed of her death.
Mbeha told Nampa on Saturday that /Ais had allegedly ended her relationship with the 31-year-old suspect some two weeks ago.
The warrant officer said the suspect rode his bicycle to /Ais’s home at about 19h00 that fateful day.
Preliminary police investigations further indicate that when he arrived there, he was told to go back to his house because /Ais was apparently no longer interested in him.
This angered him, and he pulled out a panga from his waist and attacked /Ais.
“She was chopped several times on her body – head, chest, right arm, and three deep cuts on her throat. She died on her way to the Outjo State Hospital,” Mbeha said.
She said that the two had a romantic relationship for approximately one year.
The suspect was arrested that same evening, and is expected to appear in the Outjo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Police investigations continue.
