MARIENTAL, 30 MAR (NAMPA) – The Minister of Education, Arts and Culture Katrina Hanse-Himarwa officially opened the new Mariental Woermann Brock Mall at the town on Friday.
She encouraged shop owners at the mall to create space in the market for local businesspeople to participate formally and exchange experiences to build a viable economy.
“We must encourage our people to be innovative and creative, and use business premises like these for the processing and marketing of their products,” she said.
Hanse-Himarwa, who is the former Governor of the Hardap Region, said ventures like shops at the mall would arrest economic leakages and reduce unemployment, and reduce poverty and inequality.
She said the mall, the first of its kind at this southern town, would serve the needs of the people of Mariental and surrounding areas to meet their immediate needs without having to spend large sums of money for travel to other destinations.
Hanse-Himarwa revealed that plans were underway to expand the town eastwards; in the process moving away from the flood-prone areas in the south, west and central parts of the town.
Mariental is the capital of the Hardap Region.
