SWAKOPMUND, 29 MAR (NAMPA) The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) has reported that a case of rape was registered against a man who allegedly sexually violated his 12-year-old stepdaughter at Spitzkoppe over the weekend.
The alleged rape took place on Saturday at around 03h00 at their house in Spitzkoppe village, some 29 kilometres northwest of Usakos.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol)s Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Erongo Region, Deputy Commissioner, Ottilie Kashuupulwa confirmed the incident on Sunday.
She said on the night of the incident, the girl was sleeping in the same room with her mother and stepfather but on a separate bed.
While the mother was sleeping the suspect allegedly went to the girls bed and raped her, Kashuupulwa told Nampa.
She noted that the suspect whose age is not yet known was not arrested as he ran away shortly after the incident.
Police investigation on the matter continues.
In another incident on the road between Karibib and Usakos, Kashuupulwa said one person died in a car accident while four others sustained injuries.
This accident occurred on Saturday evening, some 10 kilometres to Usakos.
The commissioner said 22-year-old Olivia Plaatje died on the spot, when a Volkswagen Golf sedan she was travelling in from Windhoek to Walvis Bay, overturned and rolled six times. Its not clear why the car rolled over.
The driver, Glyn Tjihenuna, 30, who was also injured in the accident, is now charged with culpable homicide.
Other passengers who were injured are police constable Elizabeth Moses, 21, Elrico Vries, 26 and Nicodemus Angula, 23.
The four survivors are in a stable condition at the Usakos State Hospital. The next of kin for Plaatje were informed, said Kashuupulwa.
