WINDHOEK, 28 MAR (NAMPA) – Namibian featherweight boxers, Tommy Nakashimba and Onesmus Nekundi, will square off in the main bout of the Opuwo Boxing Bonanza to be hosted by Warriors Promotions Boxing & Fitness Academy on 11 April 2015.
Addressing the media on Friday, boxer and promoter Joseph 'Smokey' Hilongwa said his stable is hosting the boxing event in Opuwo’s Arsenal Complex to encourage amateur boxers in that area to realise their dreams.
“I spent two weeks in Opuwo and realised the hardship that these boxing camps in small towns are facing. They really need help,” he said.
Hilongwa said boxers in Opuwo train in a small room and the boxing event next month is aimed at raising money for the boxers to acquire equipment and a bigger and better place for training.
It is their responsibility as boxing promoters to look after those who don't have, he added.
“I am calling on all businesspersons to come on board and allocate at least 10 per cent of their social responsibility budgets to this event, as it will really mean a lot to the public - directly or indirectly,” said the promoter.
Boxers who will also feature on the bill are John Mukwendje against Imms Joseph; Ipinge Kaunampito against Fillemon Kaatondoka; Alfeus “The Viper” Shilongo versus Theofilus Yatileni; and Timoteus Shuulula versus Tinashe Mwadziwana from Zimbabwe.
Simeon Kalola will fight against Mendu Kaangudwe; Lukas “The Demolisher” Ndafoluma against Nickora Mutonola from Zimbabwe, and David Shununa against Dominicus Weyulu.
General tickets sell for N.dollars 50; children’s tickets for N.dollars 20; and VIP tickets for N.dollars 100.
