OSHAKATI, 26 MAR (NAMPA) – A NamPol Warrant Officer at Oshakati, identified as Bernhard Ndeyanale Heinsh, shot and killed his wife at Oshakati’s Okandjengedi informal settlement between 23h00 and 24h00 on Wednesday.
Bernhard, 52, then killed himself.
The incident took place at their house. It has been reported that the pair had differences in their relationship for a long time.
The wife was identified as 47-year-old Netisia Neumbo, a popular businesswoman at Oshakati.
Commander of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Oshana Region, Commissioner Ndahangwapo Kashihakumwa confirmed the incident to Nampa on Thursday afternoon, saying the wife was granted a protection order against the husband to stay away from their family house.
“He (Heinsh) first fired an off-target shot at his wife who was fleeing, and the second one hit the woman and she fell to the ground,” he explained.
Kashihakumwa added that Heinsh then shot his wife several times in the head.
“He also fired random shots before turning the gun on himself. He too died on the spot,” the commissioner stated.
Earlier this month, another Oshakati-based NamPol Sergeant Jop Hangula, 49, killed himself shortly after he fatally shot his 42-year-old girlfriend at the town’s Oniimwandi NamPol barracks.
The girlfriend was identified as Niita Beata Endjala.
Meanwhile, a senior member of NamPol's Public Relations Division, Chief Inspector Christopher Munyika allegedly killed himself in Windhoek on Thursday morning.
Munyika, who was stationed in the capital, also shot his wife. She survived the shooting.
