Pregnant woman assaulted over empty glass
Police in Omusati Region are on the hunt for an Angolan national who allegedly assaulted a pregnant woman over an empty glass of beer in Outapi last week.
According to the victim, the Angolan man, Enersto Kameya, threatened to kill her and her baby before assaulting her during argument at a bar.
“He said in Portuguese that he was going to kick this baby out of my womb if I did not shut up and let him talk to me as he pleased, “said the victim who was with two female friends at the time of the attack.
She told Metro that the Angolan man wanted to use a beer glass, which was empty at the time, which her friend had been using.
“When I told him that my friend was using the glass, he started to insult me and called me a prostitute in Portuguese. He probably did not know that I also speak the language, so I insulted him back,” said Sheefeni.
Kameya then poured beer on her face from the bottle he was holding and she threw the beer glass at him, but he ducked it.
“He began to punch me in the stomach and crotch. He also chocked me, causing me to fall to the floor. He kicked me several times on the floor and he picked me up off the ground, has his hands around my neck. He would’ve got more hits, but I was dodging him, not staying still, and my friends shouted for help and then he fled,” she said.
She was taken to the Hospital with lots of bruising and there were fears that there was a blood clot which formed near the fetus’ head because of the attack, but she was later informed that both mother and child would be okay.
Omusati Police’s Public Relations Officer, Lineekela Shikongo said, “We are urging people to cooperate with the authorities as they investigate this appalling crime and help find the culprit.”
Shikongo said it was possible that it was a premeditated attack, but didn’t offer many other details. Kameya was not arrested at the time of going to press for the assault charge 36/03/2015.
