Mugabe heaps praises on Pohamba

WINDHOEK, 21 MAR (NAMPA)- Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe showered out-going President Hifikepunye Pohamba with praises for the role the outgoing Namibian president has played in the region.
Mugabe was speaking here on Friday during the farewell state banquet, stating that he hopes that what Pohamba was doing will continue.
He said Namibia has played a critical role in ensuring that the country builds cooperation with African landlocked countries.
'Your country continue to play a critical role in the region and we remain grateful for that,' he said.
Mugabe said he takes pride in the way Namibia is exchanging power, and the democratic values being displayed by the country.
He stated that he has no doubt that economic development made by the country will continue to grow.
Also speaking at the same event, President Pohamba said it has been a privilege to serve the country for ten years.
'The task was indeed challenging and demanding, however with the support of a dedicated team we moved full stream ahead to fulfil the mandate of Governance,'he said.
Pohamba said during his leadership he made concerted efforts to promote the maintenance of peace and stability in the country and to implement policies and programmes aimed at developing Namibia, and improving the living standard of its people.
He said his government has also ensured further consolidation of bilateral co-operation between Namibia and other countries as well as strengthening of the country's role in the regional,continental and International fora.
Meanwhile, Pohamba said there is need for measures to be put in place to denounce violent acts in Africa, and the world at large.
He also stressed that African Countries need to work together to strengthen their health systems in order to effectively fight the outbreak of diseases.
