Sixth Parliament Swearing-in on Friday

WINDHOEK, 18 MAR (NAMPA) – The swearing-in ceremony for newly elected Members of Parliament (MP) will take place this Friday in the National Assembly (NA) Chamber.
During the occasion, 104 members of the Sixth Parliament will take Oath of Office and soon thereafter elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the NA amongst themselves.
Public Relations Officer of the NA David Nahogandja revealed this in a media statement issued here on Wednesday.
According to Nahogandja, the current session of Parliament, which officially ends on Thursday, has considered and dealt with many issues of national interests.
These he said include the passing of 79 bills and the tabling of 27 motions and numerous reports that were deliberated over adding, valuable recommendations were made to Cabinet for the purpose of improved service delivery and better administration of the state.
Meanwhile, an induction programme for the soon-to-be sworn MPs is scheduled for next week Monday, which is aimed at introducing to and providing members with an overview of the workings of Parliament. MPs will also receive an outline of the expectations to be placed upon them.
Due to the Third Amendment made to Namibia’s Constitution during the Fifth Parliament last year, the NA increased its seats for MPs from 78 to 104.
