Woman stabs ex to death
A woman, Lauritha Haragaes, appeared in Khorixas Magistrate court for murder last week after allegedly stabbing her ex-boyfriend to death at a gambling house.
She was remanded in custody to March 30 after the initial hearing.
Information presented form police docket show that provided by Detective Inspector, Richard Sipilanyambe, Haragaes (37) shows that she stabbed her ex-boyfriend Rymus Basson on the left side of his neck after an argument and died upon arriving at the hospital.
"The two were dating for period of time and broke up last year. It is understood that the woman was in a relationship with someone else," said Sipilanyambe.
According to the Detective Inspector, the deceased found his ex-girlfriend at a local gambling house and sparked an argument.
"It appears like the ex-boyfriend still had issues and was not happy about her new relationship with another guy. He started to provoke her and an argument broke out," he said.
During the argument, Sipilanyambe said, Basson pulled out a knife and threatened Haragaes with it.
"After threatening her with a knife, he then threw a stone at her and a physical fight broke out at this point," said Sipilanyambe.
In the ensuing fight, the Detective Inspector said, Haragaes stabbed Basson on the neck with a broken bottle.
Sipilanyambe could not entirely confirm that the argument between the two broke out because Haragaes' new relationship, but said witnesses accounts suggested that Basson was not happy with her relationship.
"The main reason of the argument is not entirely clear, but some statements from witnesses seem to suggest that Basson was not happy with his ex-girlfriend's new relationships," said Sipilanyambe.
Haragaes was arrested for the murder (CR 30/02/2015) shortly after that and was no granted bail upon appearing in court last week. The case, was remanded to the 30th of April this year.
