FEMALE DOCTOR LOSES THUMB IN FIGHT AGAINST ARMED ROBBER

KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 (Bernama) -- A female doctor lost her left thumb in a fight against an armed robber in front of a polyclinic in Jalan SS19/6, Subang Jaya near here early today.

Subang Jaya police chief Yahaya Ramli said in the 1.20pm incident, the victim, who is in her 50s, also sustained severe injuries on her left arm after being slashed by the robber who was armed with a machete.

She was walking to her car in front of the polyclinic when the robber appeared out of nowhere and attacked her before snatching her handbag and fled the scene.

"The suspect is believed to have fled the scene on his accomplice's motorcycle," he told Bernama when contacted here.

He said the victim was taken to Sime Darby Medical Centre for treatment and was reported to be in stable condition.

The police are in the midst of tracking down the suspects and the case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code, he added.
