In another case, the police are tracking down a man who impersonated a senior state government officer to dupe unsuspecting victims.

Mohd Mokhtar said the police had received four reports of cheating lodged by victims of the suspect.

"According to a police report lodged by one of the victims on July 4, he had received a call from the suspect who introduced himself as a senior Johor Government enforcement officer soliciting contributions for his agency's welfare club.

"The suspect later sent a representative to meet the victim before the latter handed over RM62,000 as contribution.

"The victim only realised he was duped after the suspect could not be contacted," he said.

Meanwhile, Mohd Mokhtar said police solved 20 cases of robbery and snatch theft in the city, following the arrest of eight men during several raids in the Majidee area here on July 9.

In the 11pm raids, the police seized various items, including two Bank Of China cards, swords, cleavers, four mobile phones and a cannibalised frame of a motorcycle reported missing in the same area.

The suspects, aged between 17 and 19, did not have previous criminal records, said Mohd Mokhtar.
