Police recover body of drowned man

SHADIKONGORO, 23 FEB (NAMPA)- A 35-year-old man who allegedly drowned in the Okavango River at the Shadikongoro village in the Kavango East region last Monday, has been recovered.
A crime report issued to Nampa by the Kavango East Regional Namibian Police Force on Monday states that the body of the deceased was found on Friday morning in that area.
The man, identified as Marungu Thakuwiru, allegedly went to the river with his friends for a swim, and subsequently drowned as efforts by his friends to rescue him failed.
The Ministry of Environment and Tourism in the Kavango East Region had to avail a boat to assist the police in their search operation.
The Shadikongoro village is situated some 180km east of Rundu in the Mukwe Constituency.
The deceased’s next of kin have already been informed.
