KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 (Bernama) -- The ringgit closed higher against the US dollar in line with gains in regional Asian currencies, dealers said.
The ringgit rose to 3.1860/1890 to the greenback from 3.1890/1920 yesterday. A dealer said emerging Asian currencies were lifted by hopes that the US would not slow down its bond-purchase stimulus programme, despite weaker than expected retail sales in the country. The local unit was lower against the Singapore dollar at 2.5248/5289 from 2.5154/5197 yesterday, and lower against the yen at 3.1969/2015 from 3.1951/1984 previously. The ringgit was higher against the British pound to 4.7946/8004 from 4.7985/8040 yesterday and dipped against the euro to 4.1606/1652 from 4.1534/1576 previously.
