N.dollars 8.7 million raised for 2015 NAMAs

WINDHOEK, 19 FEB (NAMPA) – Over N.dollars 8.7 million has been raised for this year’s edition of the Namibia Annual Music Awards (NAMAs).
The event is slated for Swakopmund on 01 and 02 May.
Addressing sponsors in the capital on Thursday, the executive chairperson of the NAMAs’ organising committee Tim Ekandjo said Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC), which is the main sponsor, has put forth N.dollars 5.3 million towards the organisation, planning and hosting of the event.
An amount of N.dollars 3.4 million was bequeathed by 17 corporate companies, of which N.dollars 2.5 million has been set aside as winning artists’ cash prizes.
Sponsorships for various services and products worth N.dollars 800 000 were also received.
Ekandjo announced that this year, prize monies for the Best Female and Male Artists have increased from N.dollars 50 000 each to N.dollars 100 000 each, while the cash rewards of all other categories increased from N.dollars 20 000 to N.dollars 30 000 each.
The winners of each category will also receive a new Huawei P6 Smartphone.
Meanwhile, he expressed disappointment with some shops in the country which do not sell Namibian music, calling on them to do so in order to expose Namibian talent and music to the world.
“We want to see our Namibian music at the Johannesburg airport too,” he stated.
