KL SHARES END MIXED, CI DOWN

KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 (Bernama) -- Share prices on Bursa Malaysia finished on a mixed note today amid renewed concerns over the global economic outlook, dealers said.

The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) ended 0.28 point lower at 1,786.39, after opening 1.13 points lower at 1,785.54 It moved between 1,784.61 and 1,790.40 throughout the day. However, market breadth was positive, with 435 gainers and 318 losers, while 322 counters were unchanged, 501 untraded and 30 others were suspended. Turnover increased to 1.402 billion shares worth RM1.944 billion from 1.121 billion shares worth RM1.615 billion on Monday.

A dealer said the market swung between gains and losses as most investors stayed on the sidelines on lack of fresh leads.

However, gains on the finance counter helped limit overall losses, he said.

On the scoreboard, the Industrial Index gained 4.7 points to 3,022.08 and the Finance Index increased 46.59 points to 17,122.81.

The Plantation Index, however, fell 44.229 points to 8,452.69. The FBM Emas Index rose 8.609 points to 12,449.93, FBM 70 Index garnered 21.23 points to 14,309.08, FBMT100 added 2.58 points to 12,186.85 and the FBM ACE Index gained 31.56 points to 4,836.01. Among actives, TH Heavy Engineering added six sen to 91.5 sen and TH Heavy Engineering-WA earned 2.5 sen to 51 sen.

Eastland Equity lost 15 sen to 66.5 sen.

Of the heavyweights, Maybank was flat at RM10.50, CIMB earned four sen to RM8.39 and Axiata was unchanged at RM6.79. -- MORE
