SWAKOPMUND, 11 FEB (NAMPA) – The Erongo Regional Electricity Distributor (Erongo RED) company last week donated 60 mattrasses to the !Oë‡Gâb Primary School.
This school, which has 58 hostel boarders in Grades 1 to 7, is located in the Tubusis settlement, some 50 kilometres north of Karibib near the Erongo mountains.
The mattrasses are worth N.dollars 25 000, and were handed over by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Robert Kahimise last Wednesday.
On the same day, he also handed over utensils such as plates, cups and spoons worth N.dollars 3 000 to the school.
Kahimise said the school was identified as a beneficiary through a familiarisation visit by the company in January last year.
He said Erongo RED is a community-driven company which is committed to the communities amongst which it operates.
Through their corporate social responsibility initiatives, the company ploughs back into communities through various social, environmental, sports and educational activities.
“In this way, we are supplementing Government efforts,” said the CEO.
Kahimise noted that in 2013, the Board of Directors resolved that Erongo RED would give preference to learners within the Erongo Region when awarding bursaries.
“So far, Erongo RED has offered six full bursaries to students studying at various universities within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
Furthermore, many young trainees from various vocational institutions are given the opportunity to gain practical skills through the job attachment program,” he added.
The Deputy Director of Education in the Erongo Region, Mark Jacobs said Government alone cannot fulfil all the needs of education in the country, hence the need for support by the private sector.
“Erongo Red is a company which not only talks the talk but also walks the talk when it comes to the private sector demonstrating their social responsibilities in a practical way,” he beamed.
