STATEMENT BY HIS EXCELLENCY

HIFIKEPUNYE POHAMBA, PRESIDENT

 OF THE REPUBLIC OF NAMIBIA

ON THE OCCASION OF THE FUNERAL SERVICE OF COMRADE WILLIAM NDEUTAPO AMAGULU.

We are gathered here this morning on this difficult occasion of laying to rest Comrade William Ndeutapo Amagulu, who departed from this earth sudddenly and  untimely on 27th January 2015.

In life, Comrade Amagulu was a dedicated patriot who served our country with distinction in many areas, both during the national liberation struggle and after the attainment of freedom and independence.

He was a tested cadre of SWAPO’s military wing, PLAN, who was prepared to sacrifice his life in order to break the chains of apartheid colonialism. On at least two occasions, he was wounded on the battlefront, fighting against the apartheid forces.  Today, we pay tribute to his bravery and salute his patriotism.

His passing away also reminds us of the unparalleled contribution that many patriots of his generation made to the attainment of our freedom and independence.  They were inspired by our forebearers and burning with the desire to bring an end to the injustices of colonialism and apartheid oppression.

Comrade Amagulu is one of the brave and fearless Namibians whose contribution to the freedom and independence of our country will never be forgotten.  He served our country in many capacities as a diplomat and senior civil servant for many years.  Indeed, his hard work, bravery and patriotism will live on.

His legacy of dedication, hard work and fearlessness should serve as a source of strength for you, Meme Magrareth, the children, grandchildren and the entire bereaved family as you start a new chapter in your lives without him.

On behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Namibia, my family and indeed on my own behalf, I would like to, once again, extend our hearfelt condolences and sincere sympathies to Meme Margareth, the children and indeed all members of the bereaved family.

May the soul of Comrade Ndeutapo Amagulu rest in eternal peace.

I thank you.
