KUANTAN, July 16 (Bernama) -- Police arrested a husband and wife couple believed to be drug traffickers while they were with their three children in a car, in front of a restaurant in Cherating, early yesterday morning.
Pahang Narcotics CID deputy chief DSP Zaini Talib said during the 2.45am raid, police also seized a plastic bag containing 654 grams of heroin that was placed under the front passenger seat.
"The drugs worth RM39,240 are believed to have been brought from Selangor and meant to be distributed in and around Kuantan," he told reporters, here, today.
He said police also seized the Proton Saga car that was driven by the wife while the 29-year-old husband was sitting next to her.
"We are still investigating whether the wife was also involved in drug trafficking activities while their three children, aged between four and six, have been handed over to their family members.

"We also believe that the suspect from Kajang brought his wife and children to Cherating for vacation to deceive police," he said.
Zaini said initial investigations found that the husband who worked as a labourer had previous criminal records while his wife who worked at a communications company in Selangor had no records.
The couple would be remanded until July 21, under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction, he said.
