OUTJO, 08 FEB (NAMPA) – The remains of a 35-year-old man reported missing in December last year, were found in the bushes behind the 7de Laan informal settlement at Outjo.
The decomposed body of Mathew Aoxamub was found on Friday morning by community members who were searching for another person who disappeared on Monday.
The remains were positively identified by Aoxamub’s relatives through his dreadlocks and clothes he wore on the day he vanished.
The spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha told Nampa in an interview on Sunday that Aoxamub was reported missing on 24 December 2014 to the Outjo Police Station.
“The Outjo police had teamed up with his relatives the same day in search of him, but to no avail. His remains were only found on Friday at 09h00 by a group of Outjo community members who are still searching for their missing relative since Monday,” said Mbeha.
In a separate incident, a 24-year-old man was found hanging from a tree in the same bushes on Friday morning by a passer-by.
Mbeha identified the deceased as Erastus Shikongo.
“His close relatives have been informed of his death,” she said.
It is alleged that Shikongo and his girlfriend had a heated quarrel at their home in Outjo on Thursday evening.
Shikongo left home shortly afterwards, and never returned.
It is still not clear what sparked the argument between the two.
No foul play is suspected in both cases.
Police investigations continue.
